Navigating Regulations: Printing vs. Publishing
A common confusion for authors is the difference between “Publishing in China” and “Printing in China”. Here is the truth:
Do I need a Chinese ISBN?
NO. If you are printing books for export (to sell in the USA, UK, etc.), you do not need a Chinese ISBN. You only need your own country’s ISBN (e.g., from Bowker). We handle the export clearance for you.
What about Censorship?
China has content regulations for books sold domestically. For export printing, the rules are much more relaxed. As long as your content does not violate specific prohibited topics (political sensitivities), we can print and ship it globally without issue.
Preparing Your Manuscript for the Press
To ensure your self-published book looks professional, follow these pre-press standards:
- Translation & Localization: If you plan to sell globally, ensure your text is finalized. We print exactly what you send.
- Professional Proofreading: Unlike POD, offset printing cannot be “updated” once printed. Triple-check your spelling!
